Apparently you have no idea how books are priced by publishers.

If you subscribe to newsmax for a years's subscription sure.
Do you know how much money you have to spend to get the book at that price?
If you get a Mercedes for $100 if you buy a new $2 million dollar condo in Vegas, does that mean that mercedes is only worth $100?

Haha. That was a good one.
I actually saw a copy of it this past weekend at a used bookstore. I don't recall what they were selling it for but apparently the original owner had inscribed on one of the fluff pages "WARNING: THIS BOOK IS A PIECE OF CRAP". The used bookstore was trying to sell it anyway.
Too funny. |

More Monty Python Hilarity, November 21, 2009
By L. Benjamin
This absurd, tongue-in-cheek romp from former Monty Python player Michael Palin gives laughs from start to finish. In a hilarious parody of the American political system, Palin writes from the viewpoint of a former beauty queen who incongruously rises from the PTA, through the governorship of an imaginary state, and on to nomination as the Republican Vice-Presidential candidate! Be forewarned, conservative readers may be offended by the relentlessly unflattering way the author portrays the far-right wing of the party. But it's all in good fun, and a great addition to the wacky nonsense the Pythons are known for. Can't wait for the movie! |

Bookstores sell books in advance of their embargo date all the time. Technically, they aren't supposed to.Technically, they could have problems from the publisher if they do so. In reality, they seldom have problems doing so. Prior to last Tuesday's on-sale date, several networks reporters showed copies they had purchased in bookstores I have twice worked in bookstores, and it always happens. Now, if you sell a DVD before the embargo date, the distributors will really go after you, but the same isn't true for book publishers.
Anyway, even if someone had purchased the book after the embargo date of last Tuesday, I'm sure sure they could have read it quickly enough to pass their judgment of its demerits, write the supposed warning note in it, and resell it to a used bookstore by this last weekend. It's not like the book is War and Peace. Also, most smart people can read fairly quickly. |

Major retailers reportedly selling Palin's Going Rogue below cost
November 16, 2009 10:21 pm ET
Sarah Palin's memoir Going Rogue: An American Life has garnered attention in part because of the number of copies sold before publication. But the book has been offered at below-cost prices from major online retailers, and Newsmax has used the book as a loss leader to promote its magazine, potentially inflating the book's sales.
Amazon, Walmart.com, Target.com in price war over book
Walmart.com dropped price from list price of $28.99 to $10, then to $9 and below as other retailers matched it. On October 15, Walmart.com began offering preorders of Going Rogue, along with nine other new book releases, for $10. After Amazon.com reportedly matched the price, Walmart.com "str[uck] back, slashing its prices to $9" [AOL Daily Finance, 10/16/09]. Amazon also dropped its price to $9 [Buzzflash.com, 10/19/09]. Target.com joined in the price war, prompting Walmart.com to drop its price further [The New Yorker, 11/9/09]. By November 5, Walmart.com was selling the book for $8.98, Target.com was selling it for $8.99, and Amazon was selling it for $9. The respective retailers were still selling the book at those prices as of November 16. All three retailers give the book's list price as $28.99. Screen shots of the November 5 prices are below:

The one across from Beverly Center... and Carrie Prejan's book was in the bargain bin for $3.00 or less. (None of the sex tapes had surfaced when it was published but now it's toilet paper, according to the booksellers.) And guess what was NEXT to Preejan's book?
You guessed it! The "Going Rouge - An American Life" by Sarrah Palin was there in the bargain bin, priced somewhat higher - but not much higher than the now useful only as toilet paper book by Prejan. (The former Ms California that has now had multiple sex tapes of her diddling herself and far worse surface. So much worse that some company has offered her a cool million to do a compilation of them and put them on the web as hard core porn.)
Donald Trump, a former supporter of Ms Prejan's thinks she's be smart to take the money and RUN LIKE HELL - because her days as a presumed virginal beauty queen contestant are long behind her!
Palin has shown how stupid the Republican's can be, how totally ignorant John McCain was in his campaign, and how his handlers and advisers didn't know what they were doing. Old news? Or typical republican machinations? Probably both. Even the GOP will dare to lie about a person's background so long and so far.
Poor Sarah. When the going got tough in Alaska, she simply resigned. She knew she could get more off the book advance than she'd see as Governor in the next decade or so (not counting felonious activities that,as long as they were never known publicly, could well net her more than a few million but, which carried with them the risk of not allowing her to remain walking around free and out of prison if they were to become known.) Better to ditch the leaking Alaska Governor's manse and get some real cash coming in for once. Hubby Todd could pursue his own thing and pretty well duck out of the picture while Sarah was the picture perfect mother and grandmother to various illegitimate children produced so thoughtfully by her eldest daughter.
Funny isn't it? Two religious hypocrites - one brunette and aging and one blonde and young - writing books and both winding up in the bargain bin because no one wants to hear about these twit women and their useless lives of fraud and deceit that they've foisted off on the public for far too long! |
