What are people doing w/ $ in Retirement ...right now I'm sitting in cash ... should I cash in, take tax hit and purchase gold/silver?

We cashed in earlier this year. Paid off everything and stocked up on all essentials. Food, ammo, wind mill for water, diesel, firewood, meds etc.

Bought gold and silver with the rest. The way things are going, the increase in the PM's will pay the tax hit for me.

Appreciate comments on my question ... I think I will cash in on a good portion immediately ... the way I'm looking at it is ... will the $ be around when I retire? NOT! So I might as well get out now why I still have control .. before the outcome is decided for me .. I can't imagine any of what is to come will be good for the $
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 781451

I cashed out my 401k about 18 months ago. Paid the taxes plus a 10% penalty. Bought some gold, silver, storable food and paid off my debts. The increase in gold has covered my losses. I have no regrets about getting out.

Are we talking Instant financial doom? are we talking, Dollar is devalued on Saturday and then on Monday we go to the store and pay $100.00 for a dozen eggs?

This won't happen because we have lots and lots of valuable resources. In just coal and natural gas we are worth Trillions upon Trillions upon Trillions and upon more Trillions and Trillions of intrinsic value which trumps Fiat Currency any day of the week.

You might think it's the G-20 that's causing all this. Now let me tell you the real reason for the dollar going RIP on Friday.

On Friday, I will be receiving the largest check I've ever received in my whole life. It's an out of state check, so it won't clear for another five days.

It is that event that is causing the world to slip off its axis.

Are you feeling me!

I am not making this up. The check will probably be inscribed on cotton candy, and it will be raining outside.

My apologies to all of you - it's my fault.

A bit off topic, but I was wondering why Buffet would make the single largest investment of his firm's history in --- rail.

Well, one good reason would be if the dollar is significantly devalued and as a result oil (in $ per barrel) will become shockingly expensive for most industries to absorb, such as interstate trucking.

This makes coal and trains attractive again for suppliers. Just a thought.

In dream some years ago, I was trasveling with a few blokes in a Jeep. We had a box of money in our 1940's era 4WD jeep, but it was only valid for a specific amount of time. For instance I noted the the dates on the bills were stamped "E" series. It became aparant to me that if you kept the paper money past a specific period of time it would be worth nothing, as well as if you tried to spend paper money before the time specified on the bill, it would also be worth nothing. At the time such a concept of disposable money was inconceivable, so I didn't make better note of the date on the bills.

One good doomer reason is that Warren stands to reap a huge
payoff when the American citizens are hauled away in large
freight cars to their detention centers for governmental
programming.

He will probably get his royalties from a calculated percentage
based upon the gross weight of the human cargo.

Re: BREAKING! THIS WEEKEND THE U.S. DOLLAR IS OBSOLETE!Quote

So, with that in mind, let's look at how money is actually created, and at what cost. If the Federal Reserve wants to print 1,000 one-hundred ($100) bills, their total cost for ink, paper, plates, labor, etc. would be approximately $23.00 (according to Davvy Kidd in "Why A Bankrupt America"). Now, if you do the math, the total cost of 10,000 bills would be $230.00 ($.023 x 10,000). But, and here's the catch - 10,000 $100 bills equals $1,000,000! So, the Federal Reserve can "create" a million dollars, then LEND it to the U.S. Government (with interest) for a total cost of $230.
00! That's not a bad deal, huh!

Did you write this? It's missing some of the fundamental functions of the Fed and the Treasury for that matter.

Owl Talking ..... There IS a LOT of gold, BUT, OVER 90% is held by BANKSTERS/governments in VAULTS; i.e. LITTLE in circulation, and almost NONE for those BILLIONS who have NONE NOW !
Why do you think China is encouraging their people to buy gold/silver EVERY PAYCHECK ? Imagine if even 10% DO ? Thats about 1-2 MILLION buyers, and SELLERS will be FEW and FAR between, lol !

Your RIGHT about SILVER; MUCH rarer than gold, as ALL the 'easy' silver was mined a century ago !

But at the same time, it seems to be that coal production is getting "ran out on a rail", in a bad way......Operation shutdowns, mass layoffs, aquisition of smaller companies by the larger ones....

YES, AC, we have trillions in assets,BUT, via the Breton Woods agreement, IF we can't/don't pay our debts, foreign banksters/countries can SEIZE ALL government property/assets and hold generations of Americans as DEBT SLAVES to pay off the balance PLUS the interest/USURY attached !

Listen guys, the dollar can crash, but there's no way they're gonna just dump it at the G20 meeting. The US is the king at that meeting, and everybody anyway wants a stronger dollar so they can boost their exports.

If it crashes it will be a sudden and sneaky move.

Physical forms of 'money' are being replaced with E-money. Its a done deal. You can call E-money a dollar, the yen, the euro, or any currency, but its just numbers that can be stored in a device and move around in the E-commerce system. Electronic commerce is the 'change' that is coming, and along with this comes everything associated with IT, including an electronic 'mark' which you'll need so that the system can positively identify you 'anytime, anywhere'. Ah, but as Bill Gates has infered, theres much more magic to come!
