flowers

glad you and yours made it through and safe.

Tornados hold a strange facination for me, althought I have never been directly near or effected by one.

Years ago, I was in Moore OK doing some tornado clean up. I was more than amazed at the power and damage that was done. Entire neighborhoods ground scoured to slabs and even some of those were just gone. Grand piano standing in the middle of a street like it had always naturally been there unharmed and untouched.

Even longer ago than that ( more than I would like to count), I was up on a hill near or in Montgomery AL and watched 4 skinny, but powerful tornadoes dance around eachother and touch down here and there in the (then, fairly small) city and surrounding lands. From the distance I was able to watch from it almost looked like a ballet.

peace

Re: Survived TornadoQuote

we got our asses slammed last night, with multiple touchdowns. some areas are just devastated. could be a few days for power for a lot of people. i drove to a different city today to get internet and more ice.

i tell ya, shit happens, it is a good idea to be prepared. friends went to the store last night looking for food and all the prepared/easy foods were gone, generators were gone, ice was gone, could not get gas or use an atm. you also provide your own security, something to think about.

having lanterns and chem lights were very nice to have, along with an emergency radio and police scanner. camping gear for cooking is proving handy. a generator would be nice, if you are going to be a few days with out power.

checking email and heading back, enjoy your electricity :)

i have been fortunate enough to participate in ; earthquakes, hurricanes, tornados, blizzards, lightning strikes, floods, and straight line windstorms.
been electrocuted at least six times, shot in a hunting accident, totaled four cars, trampled by horses and cattle, five concussions, put nails clean through both feet and one hand, nearly pushed off a bridge to certain death, and chased by mobs. won't even get into the drugs/alcohol.

i won't be going anywhere with out a fight ;)

In Fruitport the police would not let you in there if you didn't show ID to prove that you lived there. Downed wires, trees down, what a mess

Whoop dee doo. Go somewhere that gets hit by hurricanes. Without power for weeks. The gas stations that do open will limit you to $10 per person due to jackasses trying to fill up ten 5 gallon gas cans plus the price per gallon skyrockets. If your out at night you get arrested unless you can provide proof that your going\coming from work. You still have bills to pay yet you dont know exactly when your job is going to be able to open so you can make money to pay said bills. If you can't afford a generator you get to have your windows open and hear your jackass neighbors loud ass generator that sounds like it's going to blow up while your trying to sleep. The only good thing is that we have time to prepare.

been in hurricanes, they are definitely cool. but yeah, you guys suffer for a long time, then again, have you ever lived through winter?

talk about slow death,,lol

yeah FEMA, they need first responders, volunteer plus some free gear. it is much easier to negotiate lifes little bumps from the inside, as opposed to being on the outside

you get info and access a whole lot quicker

well on a sunny day, i go to the beach to sit on the icebergs
done a lot of winter camping, no bugs, a little cold though, and if you freeze to death while you are sleeping, well, you just don't wake up
we are starting to get some pretty hard snow storms again, like when i was a kid, nothing like a few feet of snow to start your day, when we lose power that time of year, it can get pretty dangerous
