REAL problem ?

LIES ! Continuous LIES spread by The Obummers, the ILLEGAL, ALIEN FRAUD and Acorn NUTS !

It took them MORE than a YEAR to admit to the Recession; it is taking TWO YEARS to admit to the SECOND Depression !

Your LIVING it, GLPers. Believe me, I know, as I lived the last one. ONLY this time the money is becoming worthless !

SOON, foreign countries will STOP shipping their foods to us, as they will NOT WANT MORE worthlees DOLLARS ! THINK ABOUT IT ! We WILL be cut off. Food RIOTS in the major US cities, as predicted by C.E.R.N. ( NOT the collider ) but a Think Tank in Europe, late in February, BECAUSE small farmers were NOT given loans for fertilizer, tractor fuel and help getting the seed into the ground. They have NOT been WRONG since they started in 2000, and said they based it on banks NOT making personal loans, student loans, car loans AND independent farm loans. You WILL FIND OUT when the crops DON'T come in in September/October.

Got canned/dry food, grasshoppers ? Winter IS coming !

Phases, that train wreck is absolutely spot on.

Also.. most of the time, the "numbers" they show in these things don't include the numbers of those people who have "given up" on job searches or run out of their UI benefits.. and are no longer being counted.. they are not in the statistical sample.

We might be the worlds food basket, but we definitely aren't the food basket of the United States of America. Learn about NAFTA and GATT, and how it's destroyed our nations "food basket" ability to feed our own.

Also check into the recent Ag legislation and the federal water act. Dont have the bill #s, so some searching will be required, or maybe someone will be kind enough to link to them.

Once the engine (Economy), runs out of oil (Consumers), the whole system breaks down. I don't understand why TPTB can't see that simple Supply/Demand scenario, unless it's planed.

People without jobs don't spend money, which in turn, creates more business's to shutdown, which creates more unemployment, which creates more people without money etc..., etc..., You get the picture.

It's a vicious cycle. I hope I'm mistaken, but we may be at the tip of the ice-berg and we aint seen nothing yet..

Just my 2cents...Later...

Exactly! I tried to file for unemployment benefits today and all systems were overloaded. Online, telephone and human customer service. I have to try again tomorrow.

I'm thinking...if that many people are out of a job then eventually there will be no monies to fund the Unemployment benefit fund. What I paid into the system has been used up for others and now that I need it there can't be much. I fear there won't be anything there.

My employer still must cough up their portion for unemployment but they claim they are in dire straits(even though they have several administrator job postings).

Faithful,
thank you for coming back and giving a first hand account of life as you know it....

I very much appreciate your insight and could totally relate to your desire to start smoking again........hell you still have to have some sanity in whatever form works.

we have been talking about the signs in our own local economy, in other words, what do we see that suggests that things are getting worse.......

well, retail is in the crapper, that we know for fact by investigation.

restaurants are still going strong....

our conclusion is that people still want entertainment even if they no longer want the latest fashions and gizmos, they want to go out and drink and play games or eat out or whatever relieves them of the mundane.....and/or reality

so I guess it will come down to fashion clothing, shoes, games etc are all going to feel it badly while decent restaurantsw with medium prices might excell....or even liquor stores etc.

I am just thinking that in this time, it is going to be do or die and those estabilishments that sell that which we could really do without(ie fashion clothing) are done, but those establishments that can offer good food and entertainment for a medium price might actually excel......

I dont know, does that make sense? I mean you wanted to go back to smoking cause it gave you a bit of relief, which I completely understand, hell I would wear my 10 year old clothes before I would give up my beer........

having said all of that rant there will be opportunity in this mess but it will be in entertainment and not material..........

again, thank you for checking back in and giving your story

No, thank you Zephyr for taking the time to care. You dont realize just how much that means, and I'm genuinely grateful.

And yes, I do understand what you're saying. One of the real facts of the depression is that bars never went empty. My grandfather and his father could attest to that. If anyone is interested in a depression-proof business, it's a hole-in-the-wall bar that is modestly priced that offers free entertainment. During hard times, after a day of either hard labor or looking for it, that's where Grandma would find Grandpa, sitting on a stool with buddies he hung with. My Grandma was a terrific woman, and very understanding about the responsibilities my Grandfather had hanging on his shoulder...so she'd make sure he got home safe and sound every night.

I know folks who are middle men trying to do deals as brokers......

Re: Weekly Unemployment Gains Portend DisasterQuote

okay update, I HAD to take my girls shopping for clothes and we waited until the last possible minute, school starts Monday...

before I mention my observations, our local economy in my NM town is not that bad, it is bad but still mild by comparision...

the mall was DEAD...as in DEAD. We moved freely into and out of stores, everything was drastically reduced, we got tennis shoes and jeans at "buy one get one 50% off" and we were literally the only ones in the store.

there were only 2 clerks working in the stores we visited...

Barnes and Noble was busy, high priced sports stores were totally dead, Hollister...dead with old inventory...Anchor Blue...dead....aeropastale....dead... and rue 21..dead as well as several others

the one place that was busy? Payless which is where we bought tennis shoes for buy one get one half off..

so we stocked up on socks too...

wow, our mall, because there is only one is always busy and especially in the summer...kids must not have gotten jobs...

bars and restaurants are still doing well as I figured and as I posted in my earlier comments.....

just updating and interested in others experiences..especially in light of today's retail sales report.....
